Gareth Abdinor

Gareth is a Consultant at Taylor Shaw, and is an employment and workplace law expert, providing advice and guidance to businesses, organisations and workers on all aspects of the employment/contracting relationship, from recruitment, remuneration and performance to re-structuring, discipline and dismissal.

Gareth has a solid background in litigation and dispute resolution, which complements his strong interest in business and finding commercially sensible solutions.

Gareth also provides specialist advice in relation to privacy & information law issues, including compliance, breaches, access, cyberbullying and social media.

He has delivered privacy training for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, co-founded the South Island Privacy Network and has presented at numerous conferences in New Zealand and Australia on privacy and cyberlaw issues.

Gareth has extensive experience in the Education and Healthcare sectors, having acted for schools, educators, District Health Boards, medical practices and medical professionals in relation to dispute resolution, privacy and employment matters.

Gareth regularly presents at conferences and in the media on legal issues and for the past several years Gareth has appeared fortnightly on NewsTalk ZB’s “Law Corner”, first with Simon Barnett & Phil Gifford and then with Simon Barnett and James Daniels, during which he answers questions from listeners on employment and privacy topics.

Gareth is active in leadership of the legal profession and was a long-standing member of  the NZLS Canterbury/Westland Branch Employment Law Committee, a member of the New Zealand Law Society Canterbury/Westland Branch Council and was one of the founding members of the Legal Culture Committee.

Gareth sat on the Advisory Board for a Private Training Establishment (PTE) for several years.

Gareth is a LEADR trained mediator, AMINZ trained workplace investigator and qualified practitioner of NLP and Neuro-Semantics.

In addition to his law degree, Gareth has obtained a Masters degree in Political Science and has a 3rd degree black belt in the Japanese martial art, Aikido.
