Background
Thousands of homeowners who settled their insurance claims with Southern Response following the 2010/2011 Canterbury Earthquakes are likely entitled to a compensatory payment.
In August 2019, the High Court ruled that certain homeowners were likely underpaid in their insurance settlements, as the settlement agreements incorrectly did not include compensation for certain professional fees and contingency fees.
Government-Approved Payment Package
The Government has subsequently approved a payment package for eligible policyholders, which will include compensation for:
– Professional fees;
– Contingency fees;
– Interest; and
– A contribution of $2,000 (inclusive of GST) to legal fees.
Are you eligible?
If you settled your insurance claim with Southern Response for a cash pay-out prior to 1 October 2014, it is likely that you qualify for a compensation package.
If you think you may be eligible or have any questions about a previous insurance settlement with Southern Response, feel free to contact Miles Davis or Ingrid Taylor from our office and they will be more than happy to explain the claim process to you and assist you throughout that process.
